Wimbledon 2010: Maria Sharapova is rejoicing her game of tennis
The Russian born tennis sensation Maria Sharapova is back on the tennis scene of Wimbledon - all fit and healthy. It seems that the girl even enjoyed her break time to a great deal as well. The right-handed player started off Wimbledon 2010 with a straight win over fellow national Anastasia Pivovarova in 6-1, 6-0 straight set win within a time period of 54 minutes.
Sharapova has earlier rocked Wimbledon on a number of occasions. She was defeated by Alla Kudryavtseva back in 2008 in round two of the tournament. Even in the last season, Sharapova once again failed to exceed the second round, falling against Gisela Dulko.
However, the Russian tennis ace is looking enthusiastic in 2010 and it seems that she will excel to the second round of the tournament. Sharapova’s health and fitness at the moment signify that she is in a far more appropriate situation as compared to the previous season. The twenty-three-year old Maria has a record of 18-5 so far in this year along with two titles to her name. Thus, there is no doubt about the fact that the girl is experiencing a good time throughout the start of this season.
Sharapova has successfully managed to bring that fun element in her game that she initially had pretty much active prior to her injury. The former world no 1 was slumped from the top 100 rankings during the time of her injury. Currently, she is ranked number 17th in the ATP world ranking and can become one of the fatal opponents on court if she plays quality tennis. The girl has all the chances in the world to meet Serena Williams in round 4 of the tournament.
The attacking baseline player is no more affected by her shoulder injury that hit her in 2008 which was why she underwent an operation. It only pains if the conditions are extremely frosty, she added. As far as the weather of Wimbledon is concerned, it could be cold but there is no snowfall in the news updates. Nevertheless, the Russian player will take some time to warm her up with 15 or 20 serves.
The 1.88 meters high Sharapova looked pretty good in her first match of the tournament after having gained 17 points during the first serve of the match. Maria has not been successful in defeating any of the players listed in the top ten rankings. However, according to her, she has reconstructed her game plan to a level where she can defeat everyone in the world. It’s just a matter of lifting up on the very day which is why the girl has successfully won Wimbledon on three different occasions.
Others who performed well in the first round of the tournament include Williams as well as Nadal. Williams in her match with Michelle Larcher de Brito defeated her in a 6-0, 6-4 match where as Nadal, who skipped Wimbledon during the previous season due to his knee injuries triumphed in his first encounter with Kei Nishikori in a 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 match set.
Another knock over of the first round was Samantha Stosur, who fell down to Kaia Kanepi in a 6-4, 6-4 match set where as Francesca Schiavone was also thrashed on Monday.
However, as far is Sharapova is concerned, the girl is really looking good and enjoying the game ever since her return to Wimbledon, which is a healthy sign for her future matches in the tournament.
