Wimbledon 2010: Players struggle to spend time with family, Roger Federer brings wife and kids along
During the pre- Wimbledon practices, three-year old Marcos Daniel, who is a tennis player, from Brazil used to ask his father if he is purchasing a new airplane while going out for practice. The father in return replied tolerantly by saying that he is just going out for a ride. The reference of a car used to calm the little baby.
Daniel after his first-round defeat to the Turkish Marsel Ilhan, while commenting on his baby boy said that he used to wait for me at lunch time. His family including his baby girl who is just four months old along with his wife did not come to see him playing at Wimbledon. Over the last few days, Daniel is in contact with his family through video chats from the room where he is staying during the tour.
Travel schedules at the international level are hectic for all of the players moving from one championship to the next one, from the planes to the rooms of the hotels, touring and practicing as well as triumphing and falling down. It all becomes even tougher for few of the players who leave their children at home while travelling.
Out of 128 contesting individuals this season, seven of them have left their little children at home out of which Lleyton Hewitt, Roger Federer, Taylor Dent and Michael Llodra have triumphed in their first round matches of the Tournament.
As far as the number of mothers is concerned, a total of three are contesting including Kim Clijsters, Rossana de los Rios as well as Sybille Bammer.
Roger Federer, however, is the name among the father’s list who is struggling with regard to his form and game. He has twin little girls waiting for him back home. Although the Swiss sensation has plentiful possessions to his name, moving in an exclusive airplane and at times taking his wife and kids on tours as well. The clay master triumphed in the Australian Open this year in the month of January but since then he has seemed to have lost control of the standards of his game.
Federer while commenting on his feelings about bringing his family along this time said that its fun coming here with my wife and kids as my biggest supporters. Another player, who is also a very good friend of the tennis king, Wawrinka became a father of a baby girl this year during the month of February. However, he lost to Denis Istomin in his first round match of the tournament.
Llodra, like his fellow players missed his family especially his six-year old daughter, on the tour. Similarly, an American player, Dent, has left his family back home however he is hoping to move around with them during the U.S. summer tournament. But the most important thing is that his distance from the family does not seem to bother him a great deal. This shows Dent’s maturity as a player and his professionalism towards his darling sports.
Clijsters who is the mother of a two-year old baby girl is assisted by a nanny during her tours. She is also one to give utmost priority to her game and concentrates only on her play, like a true professional.
The crowd no matter, wants to see their favourite players coming out on the court with their family life back home. In the end, the players who manage to tackle this situation cleverly are the ones who triumph on the court.
