Wimbledon 2010-Rafael Nadal; Bad Knees and Good Tennis
It is high time that people started calling this year’s World Number 1, Rafael Nadal as the new Roger Federer after his brilliant win of Wimbledon 2010 Title. This season has been a great experience for Nadal and brought success to him in many ways. It was a lot of entertainment for the tennis lovers as well. Rafa cooked up some great techniques to bring a new attraction in the sport and for that he was rewarded very well in the form of applause and appreciation. The new Roger of tennis, super athlete, and hard hitter of the ball, the king of Clay are some of the various attributes that Nadal has gained during his excellent play in the recent years. Pretty surely the tennis world has no possible exceptions for him at the moment.
However the title Number 1 comes with a great responsibility.
The question is, Will Rafael Nadal be able to defend his title next year? Will he be able to deliver the same performance and efficiency with full dedication to his game in the coming years? Will he be able stick to the number 1 spot?
All such assumptions stand with a question mark on account of his knee injury. The left handed player had an injury in his right knee. He missed the last Wimbledon Tennis tournament due to that particular injury. Nadal had been caught up in this disorder since 2009. That was why; he couldn’t exhibit a great performance in Wimbledon 2009 and failed the fitness test which led him to the withdrawal from the tournament.
He suffered from Tendonitis in his right knee. In fact he had this problem coupled with the damage of tendon earlier in the same year. Because of that, he couldn’t perform well in the French Open and was thrown out after early matches. This is a potential risk which is lurking always on his side while playing long matches. Yet despite knee problems in the past he has openly vowed that his injuries were not a halt in the way of his progress. He has improved immensely and flexed his muscles for a better performance. That is how he kept his word and achieved a historic rise again.
Before the start of Wimbledon 2010, people had various opinions about their favourite players.
With the rise of Nadal in the game, many compared him with his all time rival, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick for the final play. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer had a great rivalry and they were the top most contenders for the Number 1 spot in Wimbledon 2010. They had been battling since 2004. By hook or by crook, his main challenger Federer was out of game before he could come to face Nadal. Roger actually lost his game to Tomas Berdych and slipped to number 3 in the world ranking. In the second place there was US.
Andy Roddick who could have created some problem for Nadal, but he failed to perform in a good way. His game-act was not steady enough to bring him in the top matches. Andy Roddick was stricken out by an un-known player Yeh-Hsun-Lu. In the final match Nadal faced Czech player Tomas Berdych and remained successful in defeating him. Nadal is now placed as Number 1 in the ranking which puts a big responsibility on him to defend his title.
Since Nadal is better known for his athleticism and speed around the court and his style of play is very aggressive. For all these reasons, he has to keep himself fit and avoid any injuries. He has to play very sensible and should not let his knee injury to create problems for him. He is holding the top spot and if his performance remains consistent, he is definitely going to go too far. He has a lot of control on his game and has the ability to cope with extreme conditions in the court. He has proved that he is the best player in the world of Tennis.
