Wimbledon 2010: Serena Williams and Vera Zvonareva in the final
Once the top ranked, top class and top seeded tennis sensation from the United States of America, Serena Williams made her way into the final of this year’s Wimbledon edition 2010, the girl was questioned about the Russian tennis ace, Vera Zvonareva who is the other finalist at the All England Club.
“As far as I know, the Russian girl does not play any terrible game which is the most appropriate way to comment on her game”, Serena Williams said. “She actually plays pretty well”.
Just a few seconds after this comment, another statement came pointing towards Williams that, “is there anything that the first seeded player does terrible in the game of tennis or even in her professional life”?
Williams replied with a simple answer, “I really have nothing to say about it, however it’s a nice question, and I am stunned”.
The way the top ranked player is playing at the moment is close to perfection and it’s very hard to find any drawbacks in her game.
The defending champion Serena also viewed on her current form by saying that ''I am expecting to blossom in the final match at the All England Club as well”.
On the other hand, her opponent for the final encounter, Zvonareva who is a Russian player has also set the record of being the second lowest seeded girl ever to make her way in to the Wimbledon final. Previously, the Russian tennis ace couldn’t even manage to make her way into the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Hence, the girl will be contesting in a title clash on the very first occasion in a total of thirty Grand Slam Championships.
“I always have more faith in my talent than anyone else and so the comment of the outside world does not bother me at all”, said the Russian Zvonareva, who covered her head with a blue, pink and yellow coloured towel during changeovers to jam interruptions.
“All I know is that I have the ability to perform well on the most important occasion of my career and I am fully prepared to beat the top ranked player Serena Williams in the final match on Saturday, both in terms of my fitness as well as mental strength”, said Zvonareva. It seems like the girl does not care about the odds or previous records, her entire focus at the moment is her current form and fitness. So there is every possibility that the young girl is not aware of Williams’s record of 12-3 in big finals.
On the other hand, Williams who was wearing a striking silver nail colour, while commenting on the final match at the All England Club said that “everyone is expecting me to win this season as well however; people should not underestimate the Russian tennis sensation Zvonareva who has battled extremely well all through her matches in this tournament”. Undoubtedly, Zvonareva has knocked down a couple of good players while making her way into the Wimbledon’s final and this shows that the girl is definitely a challenger.
For Serena, it in reality might be spanking to view the centre court net and face a different opponent than her own sister, Venus Williams this time.
Serena Williams has so far triumphed in a Wimbledon final only while playing against her older sister, Venus, succeeding in all the William’s encounters in 2002, 2003 as well as during the last season’s match at the All England Club. However, the five times winner, Venus Williams defeated her sister at the grass court Grand Slam tournament in the year 2008 only.
As far as the pressure is concerned, there is no doubt about the fact, the first time finalist, Zvonareva will face the greater of it. If the Russian girl manages to deal with it intelligently, then there is every possibility that the final match up at the All England Club would be an exciting one to watch.
