Wimbledon 2010: Serena’s serve did the trick for her

Unconsciousness dominated in the yesterday’s semi final clash at the All England Club from the women’s side. Three of the contesters who do not fall in the top twenty list persisted. Two of the players were unfamiliar as well as unseeded. Tsvetana Pironkova, one of the two, was knocked down in doubles qualifying prior to this championship.

Then there was the top seeded tennis sensation Serena Williams along with her excellent serves. In case there is a better hitter in the present day world of women tennis, the Hall of fame challenger, Pam Shriver wishes to know.

While commenting on BBC television, Shriver stated that “William’s serve is the greatest one in the modern day tennis beyond any measure of speculation. However, Monica Seles, Steffi Graf and many others may disbelieve”. Perhaps, what splits the world number one player in the women’s side, Serena Williams from her recent as well as bygone opponents, is that serving quality which is most effective during the Grand Slam tournaments.

Shriver in her interview few days ago said that “there is no threat what so ever for the top seeded Williams in this championship”. Her high quality serve which is truly exceptional in the world as far as the women’s tennis is concerned; doe not gets affected even in the pressure matches at the grass court Grand Slam tournament.

Williams will meet the twenty one seeded player Vera Zvonareva in the final clash of Wimbledon 2010 on Saturday.

All through this year in general and at the Wimbledon in particular, Serena Williams has served aces at a blatant speed, even by her supercilious quality. During the first round at the All England Club, she thrashed 19 aces in her match against Dominika Cibulkova and again repeated the same act in the round number four of the championship during her encounter with Maria Sharapova.

Williams previously set an ace reputation for a single Wimbledon with a total of 72 stretched over a period of fourteen days back in 2009. However, this season Williams has even surpassed her previous aces record even prior to the conclusion of the tournament with a total of 80 aces. Her nearest competitor is none other than her own sister, Venus Williams with a total of thirty aces.

Williams in her doubles clash on Wednesday at the All England Club was seen with a tape on her shoulder.  However, when questioned about this tape, she amusingly replied by saying that “it’s the reward of too many aces at the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season”.  The girl again giggled and said that “it was simply an attempt to revitalize the shoulders”.

The top seeded American reached almost seventy one percent of her serves on Thursday and not surreptitiously, the girl triumphed in a total of seventy eight percent of those points. She only experienced a total of thirty two unanswered serves. All through the tournament, Williams has served comparatively on a faster pace along with a adding a lot of variety to it.

Earlier William’s victory over Maria Sharapova in the round number four of this year’s Wimbledon edition also came as a result of William’s domination in her very first shot of each point during the match. Sharapova after the match commented about William’s devastating serves by saying that “if Williams continues to serve in exactly the similar manner, no opponent at the grass court Grand Slam tournament can defeat her”. Up till now, the world number one Serena Williams has authenticated her fellow’s statement absolutely correct.

According to the book makers as well as the analysts, the top seeded player, Serena Williams will continue to employ her excellent serve in the big match on Saturday at the All England Club as well.
