Wimbledon 2010; The drama at the All England Club
What’s so special about the court number eighteen at the All England Club?
It is the first one on the right side as you move downwards from the Hill of Henman which has been the stage of all the fuss at this season’s Wimbledon.
Just a day after the lengthiest ever match in the history of world tennis finally concluded along with the Queen’s exceptional appearance at Wimbledon, Scotland Yard was named after Victor Hanescu allegedly broached at few of the people from the crowd, then discharged on court number 18 in the fifth match set versus Daniel Brands.
According to the spokesman, four of the youngsters were hitched under the clause five of the public order ordinance as Hanescu registered an objection.
The previously confused seeded 31 player from Romania had succeeded in both of the first two tiebreaker sets and later on fell down in the next two and went through a healing on his injury in the set number four of the match. The crowd, apparently well slicked had been taunting him.
His lead in the fifth set was as low as 0-3 when he all of a sudden ceased to play and moved towards the seated umpire for shaking hands however the umpire did not reply to the hand shake. Hanescu without bothering went on to shake hands with the German player Brands, who is competing in his first ever Wimbledon and angrily walked off.
Prior to this match, Mikhail Youzhny, the number 13 player was knocked out by Paul-Henri Mathieu in a 6-4, 2-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 match set on exactly the same court. Two years back, Mathieu listed number twelve and had succeeded in just two games the entire season making his way into Wimbledon, one of the two came against the number 504 ranked player.
The remaining of the day passed happily, as form appeared somewhat recovered in the round number three even as the seeded one’s beginning to battle against each other.
Andy Roddick who is seeded fifth in this tournament was striking overall in his victory against Philipp Kohlschreiber who is seeded number 29 in a 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 match set. In another match, Novak Djokovic who is seeded number 3 did the trick with Albert Montanes through a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Top seeded player from the men’s side, Roger Federer in his clash also knocked out Arnaud Clement who is from France in a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, match set. The tennis master was seen in a refreshing mood after the victory cracking pranks about the Queen Elizabeth during his news conference. He said that the Queen came at the centre court of the All England Club with complete information about his first round match against Alejandro Falla as well as the marathon match played between Isner and Mahut on the court number eighteen.
Even the best probable clash of the day between the twenty one seeded Gael Monfils and fifteen seeded Lleyton Hewitt was a usual one. Monfil had some opportunities and should have succeeded in the second set. But the fifteen seeded Hewitt dominated the game in the end with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 win. As a result of this victory, Hewitt will face Djokovic in his fourth round encounter at Wimbledon 2010.
The only genuine excitement came when the player from Uzbekistan, Denis Istomin kicked out the twelve seeded Tomas Berdych with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 match set in their clash as the All England Club.
As far as the women’s side is concerned, there has been ironically no such drama so far other than the primeval loud piercing cry originating from the top seeded Serena Williams on court number two when the Italian player Tathiana Garbin along with Timea Baszinsky from Switzerland forced the William’s sisters in doubles match to a second set tiebreak. They took out the match in a 6-1, 7-6 set.
Moreover a lot of drama is likely suspected to happen at the All England Club as the Wimbledon continues to proceed.
