Wimbledon 2010: Venus Williams Knocked out by Tsvetana Pironkova
Long after the match concluded, Venus Williams even then looked totally astounded. The girl who contested in the previous eight finals at Wimbledon out of the last ten and succeeded in five of them lost the quarter final match of the grass court Grand Slam Tournament.
On the other hand, Serena Williams, her sister knocked down another world class player in her match on the grass court yesterday where as Venus, the second seeded player from the women’s side stumbled against a player who just holds a single Wimbledon success prior to this match.
“I need to move ahead instead of wasting my energies by thinking of it for any longer”, Venus Williams said after her defeat at the hands of Tsvetana Pironkova in a 6-2, 6-3 quarterfinal match set on Tuesday.
“Is there anything else that I can do? Unless I have the power to turn back time”, she added after the match.
The truth of the matter however is that Williams who just turned thirty last month and who is also busy in her book as well as other fashion designing activities definitely needs a power to turn back time at the moment .
However, according the second seeded Venus, who is a top ranked player from the women’s side in doubles, is hopeful to defend the doubles title along with her sister Serena Williams in this championship.
According to Pam Shriver who is a famous commentator on ESPN, commented on Venus William’s performance all through this tournament by saying that the girl has fallen down in terms of her form and quality of game with every single match that she has played in this season’s Wimbledon. She added that Williams seemed rattled, exasperated and out of form.
Even then, Shriver believes that Williams has the ability to get back on top of her form and survive for the next two years in her professional career. According to her, the critical remarks made by the analysts regarding the activities of Williams’s sisters including their involvement in fashion industry apart from their game of tennis will consequently reduce with an extension of their professional career for the next two years.
What if she retires from the international tennis at the moment is she going to take her hobby of fashion designing for the rest of her life? Will she be able to do it as good as she plays tennis? The answer to this simple question is NO. The truth of the matter is that no matter what ever field she adopts for the rest of her life, there is no comparison with tennis in terms of her ability as well as perfection for sure.
As far as the quarter final at the All England Club is concerned, Pironkova who knocked down Venus Williams yesterday will face Vera Zvonareva in her semi final encounter on Thursday. Both of the two semi finalists are the most unexpected qualifiers at the All England Club.
Vera Zvonareva is seeded number twenty one for this tournament where as Pironkova reached the quarterfinal match with a world ranking of eighty two. She has never triumphed in a championship so far but still the girl managed to upset Williams in the Australian Open tournament back in 2006.
As far as the expectations from Pironkova are concerned, her fans most wished for her victory in the first round of Wimbledon 2010. The semi final ride looked aloof, unsounded, until she succeeded in the quarterfinal battle and displayed her class to the entire world.
Zvonareva on the other hand while pinpointing her semi final entry said that she has improved as a player and now the whole world will recognize it as well.
As far as the defeat of Venus Williams is concerned, she refused to talk much about her match. The second seeded player missed a number of chances along with a total of twenty nine spontaneous errors.
However, the William’s fans still expects their stars to exhibit a terrific display of tennis in the doubles at the All England Club.
