Wimbledon - Andy Murray qualifies for the Quarter-finals
The British Number 1 Andy Murray defeated American Sam Querrey and qualified for the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. Murray beat his opponent in straight set 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4. Querrey who recently won the Queen’s Club title was unable to hold back Murray and was totally dominated in the match. Murray is hoping to win his first Wimbledon and home title this year.
The match between the two top players went out to be an exciting one as both players tried their best to score good results. As the first set of the match started, the 23 years old Murray quickly took control and started to show his dominance. Querrey on the other hand fought back and played some nice forehand shots and winners to secure some points. Murray was able to hold the American’s strong and quick serves and was able to take advantage of his backhand shots. Querrey still did some harm to Murray with his forehand shots and also earned couple of break points in the opening game. He lost his hopes for winning the opening game when he played a weak backhand shot and Murray in return played a forehand down the line to get back in the game. Querrey then suffered pressure in his second service game and failed to capitalize. Murray played some drop shots and tried to bring the big man closer to the net. He later took the lead 3-1 when Querrey made an error down the net.
Querrey soon capitalized and won the next two games of the first set moving the score to 4-2. Murray failed to seal a win in the first set after he double faulted and missed a forehand shot. Querrey got the break back in game 11 and the things seemed to get worse for Murray as Querrey took the score 0-40. As the first set seemed to be falling down from Murray’s hand, the Scot jumped back and closed the first set 7-5. The American was close to win his first set but in the end was left in a shock. As the second set started Murray again fall back in game one but later in game two he made a comeback. He recovered from 15-40 and was unable to serve at his best. Same was the case with Querrey as he too failed to serve his way out of the game and with the help of a double fault he handed over the opportunity once again to Murray. Murray played the set comfortably and left no opportunity for the American to score and thus sealed the second set 6-3 for a win.
The home favourite Murray in the third set scented victory and therefore started to play some strong forehand and backhand volleys all over the court. Murray received a break point in the third set with the help of an impressive backhand volley down the line followed up by a winner. Murray at last sealed the match after playing for two hours and six minutes in the Centre court. The Scot was highly appreciated by the crowd for his straight set win at home. After the match Andy Murray told that he faced some problems in the beginning of the first set but in the end he played some great shots and secured the seat in the quarter-finals. Murray was very much confident in his form and later in the match he left no choice for Queen’s Club winner.
Murray has qualified for the Grand Slam quarter final six times but failed to win once. This year the Scot will be looking to beat all the odds and win the tournament. However, Querrey made a lot of improvement this year as he won three titles including Queen’s Club Championship but he failed to carry on his winning streak against Murray at Wimbledon. Murray will now compete in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon against 10th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
