Did the Duchess of Kent present the Ladies Singles trophy as usual? I saw her husband for the mens final but didn't see her.

  1. No, the Ladies Singles Trophy was presented by H.R.H. The Duke of Kent, President of the Lawn Tennis Association.

The Duchess of Kent carries out very few public engagements now....I believe she suffers with ME.

  2. Katharine, Duchess of Kent, requested that The Queen remove The Duchess's title of Her Royal Highness as She wished to spend more time teaching music to school children.

The Queen granted Her request.  The Duchess, who is known to her pupils as "Mrs Kent", and well known for Her humility, is a tireless worker for charities .She is estranged from Her husband HRH The Duke of Kent, Her Majesty's first cousin. The Duke and Duchess  are now seen together only on the most formal State occasions.

  3. Think it was only HRH the Duke of Kent who presented the Ladies Singles [and possibly other] trophies at Wimbledon, the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

  4. unfortuneately not unkown as to why

  5. Katharine,Duchess of Kent chose to only work with her charities, even working as a teacher  at a special school, several years ago. She even became a Catholic. And contrary to one answer, she still carries the HRH designation!

"In particular, The Duchess of Kent leads an active public life as a practising musician. Her experience of teaching in primary schools has led her to found her own musical charity, Future Talent, which aims to give every child an equal opportunity to excel in music.

The Duchess of Kent is also involved with a number of other musical and children's charities, and has links to various British regiments. "

Katharine has cut down on a lot of her duties to zero in on her music-related interests;she not only teaches(Wansbeck Primary),she's performed with a choir and has actively encouraged young people to study music.

Wikipedia quoted a BBC report about her health:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katharine,_...

"Reports by the BBC have stated that the Duchess suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome, while the Mail on Sunday reported that she suffers from depression. By 1999 she had apparently completely recovered from chronic ill-health, and when asked by the Daily Mail what had suddenly changed, she answered, without elaboration, that she had been suffering unknowingly from Coeliac Disease (a serious and potentially debilitating auto-immune disease in which a variety of diverse symptoms can be triggered by the ingestion of the protein Gluten). She stepped down from her role as head of the M.E. Society in the UK after this new diagnosis, and has since energetically worked with various charities and schools. When asked by the Daily Mail in 1999 about her long history of illness, her reply was simply that "none of us goes through life unscathed."

The effects of her undiagnosed disease gained her the reputation among Royalist circles as a "malingerer" who was routinely unwilling to perform basic public duties either owing to laziness or to benign mental illness. The eventual proof that she was in fact, suffering a legitimate physical illness and her subsequent full recovery has apparently done little to mitigate this negative perception. "

So,perhaps, she is also distancing herself from some of the less-than-understanding royals by concentrating on her chosen charities!

  6. No , she has rejected life with the rest of the royal family and now prefers to be known as Katherine Worsley.

She suffered for many years with an undiagnosed gluten intolerance and was treated rather badly by some members of the royal family who thought she was always pretending to be ill.

She wants nothing to do with any aspect of royal life and now spends her time working quietly for charity without any of the self serving publicity that is a normal feature of royalty

  7. I wondered that too.....
