Wimbledon Tennis : Roger Federer Rafael Nadal Murray and Williams Wimbledon draws

Player names were drawn for their matches in the first round at Wimbledon. The tournament will start from Monday June 21st and would involve more than 200 hundred players from all around the world. Roger Federer will defend his title in the men’s tournament. Where as Serena Williams will defend her women’s title.

Results drawn for round one matches seem interesting and it would be exciting to see who enters the second round of the tournament and who exits.

Andy Murray will play his first match of the tournament against Czech Republic Jan Hajek on Tuesday. The fourth seed is in the same corner against current world number one Rafael Nadal. Murray will compete against the 26 year old Czech for the first time in his career. Murray can face some problems against Hajek World No. 80 would be tough to defeat. Hajek looks in form as the Czech won a Challenger event last month on clay in his home country. Murray said on Thursday that he is happy and is playing well in practice. He said that he had worked hard and has done everything possible to get ready for the tournament. Hajek had only played once at Wimbledon in 2007. Since then he has not been able to play there and beside his good results are on clay not on grass courts.

Roger Federer ranked number 1 in Wimbledon will play his first match against Colombia’s Alejandro Falla. The former world number one will be looking to make his comeback in the match against the Colombian. On the other hand this year’s French Open winner Rafael Nadal will play Japan’s Kei Nishikori. Jamie Baker another British player has been drawn to play against world number 78 Andreas Beck of Germany. The British ranked 254 in world will look to improve his ranking in the tournament this year.

In the women’s competition, defending champion Serena William will play her opening match against world number 148 Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal. Serena No. 1 seed will look to retain her title this year and is in great form. Laura Robson the former junior Wimbledon champion faces the toughest draw. The 16 year old will take on the world number four Jelena Jankovic in Wimbledon’s first round. U.S. Open juniors champion Heather Watson will compete against Romina Oprandi from Italy in her opening match of round one.

Watson, a wild card entry in the main draw, felt excited and very determined to play her best proving herself on the court. The British number one Elena Baltacha will take on Croatian Petra Martic in her first game of round one. Baltacha was happy with her draw result and seems confident in winning this year’s tournament. Baltacha later said that Wimbledon is always great to play and especially for British players.

Along with Baltacha, five other British players are competing this year in Wimbledon. Also in the first round Anne Keothavong will go head on head with Australian Anastasia Rodionova. Whereas Katie O'Brien would face a tough match against the 28th seed Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine. World No. 2 Venus Williams will start her race against Paraguay’s Rossana de los Rios, while Maria Sharapova will play against Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine. Justine Henin will be facing Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova and Kim Clijsters will meet Italian Maria Elena Camerin in the opening round.

If Federer is to win his seventh Wimbledon title the defending champ will have to surpass title favourites Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic and Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt defeated Federer last week to win the Halle title in Germany. Nadal who won the 2008 Wimbledon championship was unable to defend his title due to injury. This year he will face Murray and his French Open’s final opponent Robin Soderling.

Three-time champion Serena Williams will face Samantha Stosur and Maria Sharapova in her title defence. This year’s Wimbledon will be tough for the favourites as they will face a lot of early hardships.
