Wimbledon men’s draw announced – Federer to play Falla

Defending champion Roger Federer has been drawn to play Columbia’s Alejandro Falla in the first round at Wimbledon, while second seed Rafael Nadal will play world No. 204 Kei Nishikori in his opening match.

British No. 1 Andy Murray faces world No 80 Jan Hajek first up at the All England Club, while Novak Djokovic faces Olivier Rochus as he begins his Wimbledon campaign.

Last year’s runner-up, Andy Roddick has drawn American counterpart and world No. 92 Rajeev Ram as his first round opponent.

Lleyton Hewitt, who defeated Federer in the final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle last weekend, has drawn 188th ranked Maximo Gonzalez as his opening opponent.

Nikolay Davydenko will return to Grand Slam action for the first time since the Australian Open with a match against  Kevin Anderson.

Mardy Fish, who knocked Murray out of the Aegon Championships at the Queen’s Club last week, has drawn promising Australian teenager Bernard Tomic as his first round opponent.

Spanish No. 2 Fernando Verdasco will play Italy’s Fabio Fognini – the winner of that French Open match played partly in the dark – in his first match, while French Open runner-up Robin Soderling takes on 69th-ranked Robby Ginepri first up.

Federer has defeated the 65th-ranked Falla in all four of their previous matches, including twice this year: on clay at the French Open and on grass in Halle last week. Nadal defeated 20-year-old Nishikori in their one previous match, on the grass courts of Queen’s in 2008.
