Question:

Wimbledon roof?

I heard the roof will be supported by (10) 70 ton mobile beams!

Is this not 'overdone'? Who designed it? Possibly the same guy who did the Titanic? In this day and age with light alloys I see absolutely no reason for such a construction, it must have cost a packet.

I think the person who signed it off should be looked into!

  1. LOL!!!!  If it is the same guy who did the Titanic, he better not make the same curses against God before it set sail (he said, not even God can sink this ship).... ahm... yes He can. . . and did.

  2. I think it will be good cause all the rain delays are annoying :@

Thank god there will be play on Center Court no matter what the weather is like as of 2009 :-)

  3. Maybe they are using lightweight alloys but it takes 70 tonnes of the stuff to cover a 15,000 seat stadium. And what with the weather in London I'm sure the roof has to be particularly strong or it'll go blowing away in the wind.

  4. Precisely! I tried to tell them that but for some reason they ignored me and listened to the engineers and construction people.
