Wimbledon’s second week; What’s next?

It’s hard to believe how this maddest of Wimbledon’s -- does 70-68 strike or not? Yet could raise itself in the second week, consider all the players yet swaggering on tennis’s greatest platforms. 

Roger Federer, the number one seeded player is battling for his seventh Wimbledon trophy this season while Rafa, the top ranked player in the world is fighting for his second Wimbledon title at the All England Club. Andy Roddick, the American tennis ace on the other hand after being a runner up at the All England Club for three times in the past is craving for his first ever Wimbledon title where as the only Brit who has kept the hopes of the home crowd alive, Andy Murray is yearning to break the reputation of the English players at the All England Club by winning a trophy after a period of about seventy four years.

Williams’s sisters on the other hand are looking for a fifth sister’s final meeting which would be actually their third consecutive one at the grass court championship. Kim Clijsters as well as Justine Henin on the other hand, are making their comeback at Wimbledon after years of break so both would be striving hard on their part to make it happen this time at the All England Club. Moreover, another player who is struggling to get back to her top form in the upcoming stages of the tournament, Maria Sharapova is also among the list of the competitors at Wimbledon this year.

All of the contesters, certainly, a total of thirty two male and female players who have triumphed in the singles draw will resume the play of the fourth round at the All England Club this morning after their conventional holiday on Sunday. Another interesting fact in this season’s Wimbledon is that all of the top six players from the men’s side have reached the fourth round at the All England Club namely Rafael Nadal versus Paul Henri Mathieu who is ranked sixty six,  Roger Federer, Andy Murray versus Sam Querrey, the number eighteen ranked player, Djokovic versus Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick versus the eighty two ranked player from Taiwan,Yen-hsun Lu, Robin Soderling versus David Ferrer who is ranked number nine and above all the big man, Roger Federer who has also made his way into the fourth round of the Wimbledon edition 2010 in spite of not playing at his very best. It has happened after a period of nine years that all the top seeded players have succeeded in the first three rounds of the grass court championship.

All these six players from the men’s side were busy in practice on nearby courts even on Sunday, preparing themselves for this week’s action at the All England’s Club. Soderling and Djokovic were in fact occupied in a just for enjoyment still high spirited tiebreaker.

As far as the women’s side is concerned, all the top four players including Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic as well as Venus Williams will play at the All England Club.

According to Federer, there have been no big upsets so far in the championship however everyone did face a hard time at the grass court. As far as the tournament itself is concerned, the good news is that the top ranked players are still contesting.

Nevertheless, the second week of the grand slam tournament promises to exhibit yet another marvellous show of tennis.
