Win against Australia would be a confidence-booster ahead of 2011 World Cup - Kris Srikkanth
The chairman of Indian selection committee, Kris Srikkanth, feels that the recent victories of his side over the mighty Aussies, especially the second ODI win in Visakhapatnam, would be a confidence-booster for the Men in Blue ahead
of the 2011 World Cup, in which India is one of the three co-hosts.
After the washout in the first ODI, the hosts entered the second one-day match with its five first-choice players sitting on the sidelines. Initially the decision seemed to be quite distressing as the tourists plundered a daunting
total of 289 runs by mauling the inexperienced bowling attack all over the ground but the young line-up responded meticulously to complete India’s highest successful One-Day chase against the World champs.
The 21-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424 set up the victory with his bludgeoning 118. Yuvraj Singh, who has been facing form and fitness issues over the past few months, was joined by Suresh Raina in scoring a half-century, as the hosts
cruised to a five wicket victory over the battered Australians.
Srikkanth hailed the performance of the youngsters and called it a good sign for the future Indian cricket.
"The way we approached the game was fantastic. The good sign is that the youngsters are putting up their hands and taking up responsibility. It has proved that we have strong bench strength. It's always heartening to see youngsters
winning matches for you. It is a good sign for any country".
The Indian chief selector has termed the Wednesday win important in the context of next year’s World Cup.
"It was an important win in the context of the World Cup because it creates confidence in the team", Srikkanth told media reporters. "When you win against the No. 1 one-day team in the world chasing a record total, it is all the more
satisfying.
With the 2011 ICC World Cup just four months away, the Indian selectors are following a rotational policy for ODIs to make sure the top players are fit and on the top form for the ICC flagship event. This is the reason that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 has
sporadically seen its first-choice players, Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and Zaheer Khan in recent one-dayers.
