Question:

WinRAR, Problem with seperate parts.?

I downloaded a RAR file that were separated into 3 different parts. the parts were named like this.

File_Name.rar.Part1

I knew the .rar file type so i downloaded but winrar does not recognize the files.

I changed the names of the files so that the part names where before the .rar extension.

WinRAR could then recognize the files but upon opening the first file it cam up with the "Unexpected end of archive", making me think that winrar doesnt know that they are linked.

My Question is there a way to make winrar rebuild a file by force. so that even though it doesnt know the parts are linked, i can still rebuild the file.

Thanks

  1. I think one of the file is corrupted. There is no way to rebuild the file if it is corrupted. Try downloading it again.

  2. These files were chunked into small pieces for transmission on Usenet binary groups by someone along the way from Scene-group FTP to P2P. This is fairly common, and requires a file joiner. I use Linux, so I'll just link you here so you can pick one you like:

After joining the parts, you'll get one new file which opens in Winrar and has a .rar extension but nothing else. If this file fails to open right, the archive was busted before you even downloaded it; Usenet transmissions are unreliable, hence why people chunk big files into small bytes. You could try repairing the archive with Winrar.
