  1. Hi Sush

You can unpack an archive using the "Extract Here" or "Extract files..." option in the context menu (the one that appears when you right-click an archive). This way, the program won't open itself; only a box showing the extraction progress will come up which will go away as soon as the extraction is complete. If these options are not visible directly, point to the option WinRAR, and a submenu will appear, which will probably include these options.

If the option WinRAR is not available, either, this means that WinRAR is probably not integrated with the shell. The following procedure applies to WinRAR version 3.71 under Windows XP Pro.

To integrate WinRAR with the shell, open the program WinRAR. In the Options menu, click Settings... The Settings box appears. On this box, click the Integration tab. Under Shell Integration, check the check-mark (Integrate WinRAR into shell). Now click the button "Context menu items..." and make sure that the check-marks "Extract Here" and "Extract files..." are checked. Click OK. Then click OK in the Settings box. You may now close the program WinRAR. That's it.

  2. right-click the .zip or .rar file,

    choose: "extract to..."

...you'll never even see the winrar window
