Any hunters out there ever use the original Winchester Silvertips in 30-06, 150 grain? Not the Ballistic Silvertips. What animals have you taken with it?

  1. NO, I prefer the Remington core-lokt soft points in 180 or 220 grain myself.*

  2. You should use the Ballistic Silvertips.  They are awesome.  I have hunted whitetail deer with them for YEARS.  They do a LOT of damage.  Great bullets.

  3. I used them in a model 700 in 30-06 and never really liked the performance, shot several deer with well placed heart-lung shots and had to track a little to far for my liking.

  4. I have used The silver tips in my 30.30. years ago didn't like it the bullet did not expand very well which in my case caused me a big headache tracking deer for 300 hundred yards when I usually track a deer around 60 or 70 yards with a well placed shot

  5. Not a good bullet.

  6. not a good bullet in rifles or rifle cartridges for that matter but they are devastating in my 45 acp and 44 magnum and i used them in my 44 to take a 227 lb whitetail  in BC last winter with super hopped up loads and dropped him like lightining

  7. I've used them in an old 'thurty-thurty.'  Good ammo choice for the .30-30 Winchester.  I plan to use the ballistic Silvertips in my .25-06 this year so I'll let you know.  I use Hornady in my .30-06, so if you get good results with the Silvertips in your .30-06 let me know.
