Wind and it's mph?

Question

So I just thought of something... I looked at the local weather, and it says the wind is at 4mph... a question popped up in my head: Is wind EVER 0mph, meaning is it always windy, even if it's only like 1mph? lol

It's indicated by calm which means it's 0mph.

If it says "calm" that means there is no wind, i.e. 0 mph.

Yes the wind can be at 0 mph but most of the time you will see it reported as calm.

Actually this is a good question.  The wind is only a measure of air moving horizontally.  In that respect the wind speed can be zero.  But the air will always be moving vertically even if it is not moving horizontally.  The air will be rising or falling, too.  So remember the actual term is relative wind.
