  1. They are called windsocks and a few aviation parts suppliers have them.  I linked one below - right to the page of windsocks.

    Good luck

  2. It is called a Wind Sock and they are available from many aviation supply places, so do a web-search using "wind sock" in quotation marks. One is advertised here: http://www.monstermarketplace.com/Genera...

Here's how you can make one: http://www.allstar.fiu.edu/aero/Experime...

  3. A stick or piece of pipe and an old shirt will do for what you need it for

  4. orange cone is a wind sock. aircraft spruce should have some. any pole will do. i use an old t-post and a long piece of rebar for my dirt strip near home

  5. The orange cone you speak of is called the "Wind Sock".

The wind soak is calibrated to be fully extended when the speed reaches 15 knots, or about 17 mph.

It's also designed to move freely when wind speeds reach at least 3 knots, or about 5 mph.

And, it's also designed to withstand wind speeds up to 85 knots, or about 95 mph when properly installed.
