how does wind speed (mph) change over a distance of....1100yards?

I mean whats the difference at where you're standing and 1100yds away. should there be a difference?

should the wind speed be the same within 200-300yds?

thx

  1. The wind at a place is seldom steady. Both the velocity and the direction are found to vary with space and time.Sometimes the fluctuations are very sudden and short-lived.These rapid fluctuations are known as gusts and lulls.Gusts are the sudden increases in wind speed whereas lulls are the sudden drops in wind speed.Gusts and lulls in air flow are caused by turbulence in the atmosphere.

Turbulence occurs when there is a mechanical obstruction to the flow of air(mechanical turbulence) or when there is a marked convection in the atmosphere(thermal turbulence).

Mechanical turbulence is caused when the wind moves over a tall buildings, small hills or a hanger in an aerodrome.Thermal turbulence is caused by the intense insolational heating.

In thermal turbulence, air layers when they are subjected to intense heating (as above said) close to the ground, ascent due to buoyancy and the convectional currents that are set up,if sufficiently strong, give to turbulent fluctuations which appear as gusts and lulls in the horizontal wind on hot summer days especially during afternoons.

So,at a distance of 1100 yards away from us,there is the possibility that wind speed may vary as explained above.Even within 200-300 yards the speed may vary.
