  1. yep they all need to be connected

generator via regulator to battery. The generator gives off a varying voltage that could harm the battery. The regulator regulates that to ensure that the battery receives just the right voltage to charge. To work the regulator has to be electrically connected between the generator and the battery.

If you are using an alternator then that is producing an AC voltage which has to be converted to DC before it can charge a battery. The regulator does that to.

  2. do read your manual, it will tell you how to hook up properly. when the system is working, check battery voltage with a volt meter. you should have a volt reading of 14,5 to 14.7volts. the regulator should be marked for input from wind turbine and output for the battery. be sure to observe proper polarity or you might blow the regulator.

  3. Yes. Battery and wind generator should be connected to the regulator. It will stop over-voltage charging.

You'll know when it's all working because the wind-genny will spin slower when it is under load i.e. charging the batteries via the regulator.
