Windies ODI squad has a wealth of experience: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 – Cricket News Update
All-rounder Kieron Pollard is confident the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 team make-up is formidable and experienced enough to prove a tough challenge for England in the upcoming 3-match ODI series, scheduled to begin on June 16 in Southampton.
“We are a very good team. We have a wealth of experience with Chris back at the top of the order. He is one of the most explosive batsman in the world ... Then we have http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299
and myself so we have a very experienced team. The days of just competing in ODIs are over. It is a matter of performing on the field.”
The West Indies ODI squad has been given a substantial boost with the return of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 to the squad. The 32-year-old, who has been out of the national team for 15 months owing to a disagreement with the West Indies Cricket Board, is a veteran of 228
ODIs (during which he has scored a total of 8087 runs at an average of 39.06), and 127 T20s.
In addition to Gayle, the tourists also have the expertise of Marlon Samuels to depend on – the 31-year-old has played a total of 130 ODIs, with 3041 runs at an average of 29.81 to his credit. He was also one of the most consistent performers for the West
Indies in the recently wrapped-up Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, registering scores such as 86, 76, and 117.
Dwayne Bravo is yet another player who offers an element of experience to the squad. With a career that spans 122 ODIs (with 2004 runs at 23.85, and 142 wickets) the 28-year-old all-rounder will be going into the series fresh from a stint with the Chennai
Super Kings in the recently wrapped-up 5th edition of the Indian Premier League.
The West Indies are a fairly young side, still in the process of development with a few seniors among their ranks, but a surprisingly competitive showing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the ODI series this March marked an improvement in terms of performance. With Gayle
back in the team, and a line-up which boasts a mixture of both youth and experience, the West Indies appear to have a good shot at finally clinching a series win.
However, Pollard is of the view that the team cannot depend solely on big names with intimidating reputations.
“At the end of the day names on the paper count for nothing. Your performance on the field matters,” he said, adding that it would be in the team’s favour to give a good account of themselves by winning games.
