Windies count on Bishoo in place of Narine – Cricket News Update
After his decision to prefer the Indian Premier League over national duty, the Windies appear to have lost their ace spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Baugh-c1293 is convinced that Devendra Bishoo can more than make up for the loss.
Narine proved to be the undoing of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 batsmen during the limited-overs leg of their Windies tour, claiming 11 wickets in 4 ODIs. While he remained wicktless during the T20s, he was expected to be among the more deadly bowlers in the Windies arsenal
for the upcoming Test series due to kick off on April 7 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
However, the 23-year-old, who is not a contracted West Indies Cricket Board player, was snapped up by the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders for the current 5th season of the League, and picked the more lucrative option (a $US700,000
contract with the KKR) over a Test debut against the Aussies, as confirmed by KKR chief executive, Venky Mysore.
The Windies have brought in leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo in his place, and Baugh is convinced he will be just as effective as Narine at unsettling the visiting team’s batting order.
“It could be (an advantage), and on Bishoo's day you never know what can happen,” the Windies wicketkeeper said.
“To be honest, over the years Australia doesn't play spin that well,” he added.
“Not taking away anything from them, they're pretty good players, but tradition follows on from the years that they're not the best players of spin, so it will be very interesting.”
The 29-year-old Jamaican is convinced that the tricky Caribbean wickets will be the host team’s advantage, which they can manipulate to add an element of surprise to their attack.
“This wicket wasn't the best and they struggled a little bit,” he said, in reference to the pitch at the Three Ws Oval in Bridgetown during the Aussies’ ongoing tour match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board President's XI. “Hopefully when the Test matches
start if we can continue to keep them on that road, eventually we should surprise them.”
