Windies geared up to win Test series against New Zealand: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, and emerge triumphant in the extended-overs
format.
“Everything we do is geared towards winning. We did it in the Twenty20s and the ODIs, and we're looking to do the same thing in the Test series,” Sammy said. “... both teams will be playing to win and we will do everything to achieve that (a win).”
The Windies have long been considered a struggling side on the international stage – however, their recent performances have marked an upward trend in terms of performance, rekindling the competitive spirit in the team.
Their ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in March this year saw them drawing a series which the Aussies had been expected to win, hands down.
A disastrous tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 followed, with Sammy’s men unable to win a single match. However, they bounced back during New Zealand’s ongoing tour of the United States and the West Indies, during which they have maintained a dominant position throughout,
winning both limited-overs series and displaying an attitude which Sammy aims to carry straight into the Test series.
“We're going to be competitive ... and win the key sessions like we did in the one-day series and look to win in the Test matches,” he said.
The 2-match T20I series played in Florida resulted in a 2-0 win for the Windies, and the ODI series which was played in the Caribbean directly after culminated in a 4-1 win for the home team.
Although Sammy has backed his team to continue their winning streak in the upcoming Tests, he also acknowledged that the extended-overs series will be an entirely different ball game, owing to the amount of patience and concentration required.
“... it's a different format and Test cricket requires a lot of patience and focus,” he pointed out. “... that's what we have to go out there and do.”
The two teams will be going head to head in the first game of the 2-match series this Wednesday, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
