I was thinking of alternative energy for my home, see with the power bill spiking all the time i thought a windmill would be a nice change. Any ideas on what type or any info would be nice. My parents are always complaining the bills to high and I am into the eco friendly way of life.

  1. home residential windmills are regulated by easement laws

and most home residential areas dont allow them. yet.

Go solar for now til the windmill home versions are ruled on for install in your state unless you live in real urban or

    horse pasature country. cheers

  2. Go solar collector if you're in a sunny region. They can save a lot on hot water and heating.

good windmills are big, very big, and you would need a large area to put it in, at least as big in radius as the windmill is tall, in case it falls over.

Not something one person would do, but if you got a neighborhood or town to do it, that would be profitable. In a good windy area, it could probably pay for itself in a few years.

  3. Join the club with many members, but no solution on the horizon.  It all sounds good- alternative energy- but there is no practical solution yet.  Wind is troublesome, as it is erratic, cannot be stored, a noise and sight pollutant, expensive, and everyone wants it, just not in their community.

Just use less of the grid and wait until someone clever gets an idea.  You will probably have to be sneaky about it, as once the government gets hold of it, it will be regulated and taxed to death by the lame-brains in congress.

  4. and don't install either wind or solar to reduce your power bills.

The cost to install and operate them over their lifetime is at least as high as if not higher than simply contracting your power from a generating company.

It's also not "eco friendly". The construction and disposal of especially solar cells and to a lesser degree wind generators costs so much energy you can use electricity from an oil or gas fired plant for a decade before you're "cleaner".

And by that time your solar cells or wind generators will be ready for replacement.
