Window Air Conditioners Help?

Question

I set my window air conditioner to 64 degrees and my room is 71 degrees. What can I do to lower the temperature to what I set the air conditioner to?

Not much really,

You see the difference between a window unit and a central unit is air circulation and design, a central system is specifically designed for the space it is to cool, where a window unit is not.

and another thing you have to consider is that the return and thermostat on a window unit are merely inches away from the cold air being pushed into the space being cooled.  

which brings me to air circulation, the more air circulation the better, central units circulate air through the entire space being cooled, window units do not.

These are my suggestions:

#1 Ceiling fans and/or box fans. Installing one or more fan will increase air circulation throughout the space.

#2. A somewhat more complex yet more accurate fix would be to install a external thermostat to control the window unit, the thermostat would need to be installed in the warmest area of the room.

Most window air conditioners are factory set not to go below a certain temperature. This is to prevent them from damaging themselves. At low air flows, the compressor still pumps at the same rate as it does at high air flow. This causes condensation on the evaporator (indoor coil) to freeze, which will damage the compressor. In door temperatures below 70 degrees take you out of the air conditioning realm, and start putting you into a refrigeration mode. This requires a different refrigerant.

I would also suggest closing all the window shades to keep hot sun out of house.
