Question:

Window Tinting; How to tint the Rear Window??

I have a 00 Black Celica, which I have tinted the side windows and the strip on the top. Though it was difficult, I managed to get it on but did have some problems:

- Constant struggle with water seeping in the edges because of too much material creating little "shooters" that would come right back once you squeegie'd over them.

- Very small air bubbles when trying to stop the "shooters" by pressing harder and using heat from a hair-dryer (used the window tint solution mixed with water)

- When I put the strip across the inside front, and cut it in half to go on either side of the mirror and meet in the middle, the line was Sadly visable where the two met.

I have the window tint (two rolls because one will not cover it completely) ready to put on. How do I prevent the "shooters", avoid bubbles, and keep the line where they meet from being painfully obvious.

  1. Tinting the rear window is far more difficult than the side windows. However, if you decide to do the job yourself, you will need a heater blower, similar to a hair dryer but far more efficient. This will help you shape the film to the window once in place. Bubbles are going to be the least of your problems, as the real problem lies in shape, while keeping it moist so you can pull the squeegee over and over till the film is properly fitted. The two sheets overlapping should be cut exactly at the middle sideways, while still wet. This poses a double challenge as when the film is wet, it´s prone to move, but if it dries on you, then the edge won´t fit nicely together. It´s a tough job even for a pro.

Using a soapy water will help you do the job. But be prepared for a very sweaty workout,

    cheers

  2. Overlap the two pieces where they meet, and cut through both with a brand new razor blade. Then peel back top piece and remove the scrap .Make sure to keep the pieces wet while cutting.
