Is cedar trim / molding around doors and windows make a house look dated? The house has exposed beams, and cedar walls, rustic looking anyway. But I was told that wood molding is out of style.......

  1. I have exactly what your talking about. And I'v gotten grest coplimennts on it. I think it makes it look classic which, if thats the kind of style everything else in your home, is fantastic. I would go for it.

  2. Someone is spreading the rumor that wood is out of style.  I think it depends on your taste.  I wouldn't consider buying a house that had no wood trim or had painted cabinets.  It is a matter of personel taste.  If you like it, do it.

  3. 1st think of what your over all style is. What look are you trying to achieve??

Any type of molding can date a house/look. However, what you do to it and other furnishing, paint schemes, accessories that you use can also pull the look together.

I had the same thing in a home I owned, tongue and groove paneling, shaker shingles on areas of the drop ceilings, etc...I loved the shabby chic, French country look at the time, so I used some ingenuity, paint, wall mud, throw rugs stain and sand paper to create an awesome look.....

2nd.Research some decorating mags and books...see what you can do!
