Window XP keeps aquiring and releasing ip address?

Question

I have a laptop computer which has DHCP enabled. It can aquire ip address from the router. But it releases the ip address after 2 minutes and aquire the ip address again. I check the ethernet connection. It is ok since other computer does just fine with that ethernet connection. I have 2 other computers and they are working with the router fine. Only this laptop keeps aquiring and releaseing ip address. I don't know whether there is any DHCP compatability issues.

Make sure that ALL of the computers are set to get an address assigned automatically by the router. Mzybe one is set to static.

Also check on the router that the range of addresses handed out by the DHCP server is sufficient for the number of computers you have accessing that router.

Check the patch cord.  sounds like you are also losing the physical connection.
