  1. Download Ubuntu here and burn it to a disk when it is finished.  Then restart your computer and follow the instructions.

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

You can also just request a free disk, or buy one if you want to get one through the post quicker.

*Jiiize* - its not true to say that one system will not be faster than another on the same machine.  I had my last machine triple booted with Fedora, Windows XP and a special 'stripped down' version of Windows 98 with an unnofficial 'legacy' update on it.  Benchmarks on the two Windows systems put the Win98 way ahead every time.   XP was never claimed as a faster operating system, it was introduced as more capable of handling big  disks, more stable, and more secure.   Apart from anything else the file systems you use on your disks are going to make a difference.

  2. There are many other operating systems which are probably faster than Windows, however none except Linux come close when it comes to driver support or software availability.

Linux is gonna be your next best choice but you should probably start with something easy like a copy of Ubuntu on a live Cd so you can boot off the CD and learn how to use it before committing to installing it.

Another system is the Sun Java Desktop which I believe is very good and like Linux it is free

  3. for you? NO! why would you need to go Faster?

    do you mean better/faster graphics?

  4. Mac OS X is much better compared to Windows Vista or any other Windows version. It's faster, less errors, less hangs and more services and options.

  5. The major Operating Systems in use are Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

By far Windows is the most used system.

You can try Linux, but you have to get used to it. Try Ubuntu linux.

You can try getting it free.

  6. Buy a Mac. It is faster than Windows. Linux is a tad tricky to install. Follow a step-by-step guide on installing it from Google or somewhere.

  7. try linux, Ubuntu is so far the most used Linux distro, its easier to install and use and than the rest.

you can download the OS at their website at www.ubuntu.com

or you can ask for a free cd, they ship it for free without any cost

    hope this helps

  8. keep linux as your homepage
