Why, during the 1980's did British Rail stop putting the route labels on carriage doors and transfer them to the first window nearest the door?

    Having gained plenty of them by the simple expedient of opening a door grabbing one and making off.

    Who remembers the plastic destination cards that were in the toilet windows of HST's?

    They took some getting out I can tell you!
