Window operating system question?

Call me a sucker for sentimental things but I want to find an original version of the PC game Myst. But then I was thinking that that game was released for Win95, does that make a difference if I have Windows Vista. Can I play older version games on newer version systems?

  1. Sometimes, but it depends on how the software was programmed. If it was programmed using assembly language it will be very hardware driven. This means that under newer hardware it will run too fast and have far too many timing issues. If it was written using API for a specific OS you might have computability issues. There used to be a program called "MoSlo" to help with hardware driven games like the original Wing Commander. Not sure what you could do for a Win95 specific issue though...emulator maybe?

  2. Try right clicking on the application >> properties >> compatibility >> run this program in compatibility mode with Windows 95. and see if this works.

  3. of course yes
