I have Window unit ACThermostatt mounting bracket is missing. Because of thisthermostatt wire, bulb, and needle are just free-floating about 1-1 1/inch'ss from the unit. We are running it one max anyway. However, the unit does not seem to be cooling very well. I have clean the exaust vents, intake vents, and blower. Is the themostat effecting the temperature of the unit? I was not sure if it did this or controlled the unit's ability to kick on or off. Does anyone have an idea to what the spacing should be, or if it has anything to do with overall cooling? Are there any other suggestions besides buying a new unit, or hiring someone to recharge the system, which I am not sure whether it is low or not. The unit is not freezing like it would be if it where low on coolant.

  1. Check the inlet of the outdoor coil. You may have to remove the unit from it's sleeve, or take the metal cover off the outside of the unit. Look inside where the fan is blowing against the coil. If it is dirty, a good cleaning will make it work like new again.
