I have a window xp cd that I plan to install on a mac through vmware fusion. I was wondering if the partition process actually affects my mac or the process is done through the vmware fussion and I will not have my Mac partition of gbs.

  1. Good question.

When you are installing through Vmware, it doesn't partition your drive at all. What it does do, is create an artificial hard drive which is essentially a file that houses the contents of the Windows hard drive.

But Vmware is clever. If you decide to have a 40GB hard drive for your virtual windows machine, then it doesn't make a huge 40GB file which would suck up lots of space on your hard drive. It starts with a small expanding file that gets bigger as windows uses more... it just tells the windows virtual machine that it has a 40GB hard drive attached and then makes the space when it needs it.

So the short answer - vmware doesn't partition your drive at all - no need to worry!
