Windows 8 compatible with Xbox 360 games - Rumour

If you, the reader, clicked on the link that brought you here in disbelief, then you are part of 50% of the gaming world’s population, and if you clicked on the link with eager excitement, then you are part of the other 50% of the gaming world’s population.
If you clicked on the link for either of the above reasons than you sir, are not a part of reality.
While the news may come as a shock to many, the fact that Microsoft is taking steps to link its, fairly large, PC community to its hardcore Xbox community only seems logical.
The reports are at this stage unconfirmed but the news has more of an ‘about time’ feel to it, especially with Microsoft’s fiercest rival in the video games industry, Sony, also working on cross-platform gaming, with Eve Online on the PC and Dust 514 on
the PlayStation 3 both compatible with each other.
Apparently there is rumoured to be a subscription fee for both platforms, Xbox 360 and PC, which will put both under the same unified Microsoft umbrella. While both platforms are predominantly Microsoft’s own, they are separate entities, something Microsoft
are rumoured to want to change.
However, the rumour also goes on to state that in the early stages, cross-platform gaming between PC and Xbox360 gamers may not be possible, but at the same time, the foundation for such a feature will be in place to pursue the idea further.
The move seems a smart one, seeing how the software development company can stamp Microsoft exclusives on future game titles and market them to a wider audience instead of just console owners.
The application is said to be compatible with the next iteration in Microsoft’s Operation Software, Windows 8. While there is no official release date for Windows 8 and speculation about its features rife at the moment, the rumour may end up being just that.
However, the source did give a convincing enough statement, signalling that Microsoft may be well into the development of the application.
"Games for Windows Marketplace will fully transition over to Xbox.com. Now you can get all of your gaming needs in one place. It's convenient, it's concentrated, and it's a whole lot of great games."
While the quote did not give any specifics away, the news itself could result in drastic changes in the way games are developed and marketed in the future.
For now it seems only the Marketplaces of the two platforms are to meet each other and the rumour is still just a rumour and the age old adage of ‘if it’s too good to be true, it’s not true,’ may apply. Yet, that should not stop anyone from daydreaming of
such a time in the near future.
