Windows Media Player Error code C00D1199 -- Does anyone know how I can fix it?!?

"The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player." This is my problem. I have the codec Xvid, but nothing other than that. If it matters, I also have VirtualDub and AviSynth. Do those do anything codec-wise?

When I click "Properties" on the file I'm trying to play, it doesn't say anything next to the "Audio codec" and "Video codec" for the file. The file is .avi.

I just need help fixing this problem! Please come to my rescue!

  1. The solution is to to install the latest xvid codec and make sure you also have the latest versions of DirectX and Windows Media Player installed.

You can get the latest xvid codec for windows media player here: http://www.divxmovies.com/software/

(Currently XviD codec v1.1.3 - see half way down the page)

The codec is very easy to install and works without a reboot in Windows XP.

You can get the latest DirectX and WMP by visiting the Windows Update website.

If this doesn't work, tell me and I'll be glad to help!
