Windows Vista, Internet Explorer opening multiple times.?

On my Windows Vista desktop, at complete random times, internet explorer opens up many times. Just like a virus, but the system does not seem to be altered.

I was looking at the Process list, other then having "iexplorer.exe" have high CPU usage, process "dwm.exe" was also runnng at a high cpu usage.

Is dwm.exe a virus? Worm? Some kind of unwanted exe that I wouldn't want?

Feedback appriciated.

  2. lol i used to have the exact same problem on my old computer, its not windows vista tho, its the old 1999 Windows ME.

You should scan your computer for viruses-etc.

I ran a scan on my old computer and that never happend again.

FIrst, restart your computer, hit F8 As Soon As Possible, then go into safe mode.. now download AVG Or Avast.

    AVG 8- http://free.avg.com/

    Or

    Avast- http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...

both are free, run scan when download is complete.

    Good Luck.

  3. Boot your computer in safe mode and check the process. And if its still there end process then do a virus scan in safe mode. DWM.exe isnt a worm its your desktop windows manegment so of course that would take up alot of usuage. also IE (ineternet explorer) was built into the computers system files itself so just boot up in safe mode and do a virus scan

  4. dwm.exe is part of what runs high graphics and transparency in windows vista. it is the Desktop Window Manager.

  5. Run anti-malware, or enter 'mrt' into the run commands and scan
