Question:

Windows Vista/Canon CameraWindow/Powershot SD450 (not working)?

I recently upgraded to Windows Vista and when I try to upload photos from my Canon Powershot SD450, I can't use Canon CameraWindow to do so. The CameraWindow doesn't open. Windows Photo Gallery works, but Canon CameraWindow doesn't. I've checked, and SSDP Discovery Service, Canon Camera Access Library, etc, are running and starting up automatically. Canon says there is no additional driver needed for SD450 to work with Vista. How can I get Canon CameraWindow to work on Vista?

  1. So save a lot of grief.

Buy a $10 USB card reader like all my pro buddies do and copy your image files using it.  There is no reason to have your camera attached to the computer anymore.

It makes it much easier to control what file folder your images end up in by using a card reader.

I have been shooting digital images professionally for over 6 years and have always used a card reader.  The new ExpressCard/54 found on many of the new notebook computers copies image files from memory cards at nearly eight times the rate a USB 2.0 does ... and it doesn't require you to use the energy in your cameras batteries.
