  1. XP would be better for gaming because it needs less power to run the OS, so you could have more video memory/processer power/RAM available to be used by your game

  2. Vista is o.k for the new games on the market, e.g.  CRYSIS, COD4. But games that are 2 years old or more do have problems with vista.

  3. xp sp2 is the best for gaming.  vista is not good for gaming.  You lose quite a lot of fps when running vista.  If you really want to run vista you could turn all the 'nice looking' desktop graphic effects

  4. I love all the Vista flaming going on. This question will depend on your PC, but for most newer PC's it doesn't matter. Vista just tends to use a lot of memory, which causes most people to think it sucks. They don't think about the fact that Windows XP was around for 8 years. All these people with 8 year old PC's are installing it, and are sorely dissappointed with their results.

Vista was written on newer hardware, because they expect us to use newer hardware to run it.  To run Vista comfortably, you want a dual core or better processor, at at least 1.5GHz (1.8 is better). This includes the Intel Core 2 Duo line, as well as the AMD Athlon and Phenom X2 and up line.

You also want a minimum of 2GB of RAM. 3-4GB is preferable, but 2 will do ok. People whine that we "can't all afford such a high end machine" but in all honesty RAM is dirt cheap compared to most other upgrades, and the truth of the matter is that our programs are using that much. 2-4 GB of RAM is mainstream - it is NOT just for high end rich people.

Trust me, Vista performs more than acceptably for gaming. I only lose about 1fps over my XP machine. I also play a lot of games online, and Vista's rebuilt networking stack is much faster and more efficient than the one used in Windows XP, so my games don't lag near as much.

I play WoW, Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike:Source, and many other games online, and I actually prefer Vista due to the better networking.

You can hear these people flame Vista all day, but in all truth Vista and XP are near identical when it comes to game performance. The bonus is that Vista has DirectX10 with WILL be the future of gaming. Futureproof yourself and get Vista now, unless your PC can't handle it.

  5. forget vista for anything...XP for deff.

  6. BOLLOX TO ALL THE VISTA HATERS - ANY OF YOU USED IT??????

Hey, i'm running a high end machine the top range macbook pro, so if you're running anything like that you're run vista like a dream, I should know I bootcamp it.

It only hogs recources, if you have bugger all of them i.e 512mb ram. This guys wants high end gaming so minimum 2gb. Vista will run that like a dream.

Basically, you've got dx10, which is the way all the games are going now high ends ones anyway, a much much much better OS, and if you're looking at running high end games you will be fine with vista.

    My machine: http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.ht...

If it's anything close to that you will be fine

Choose vista it's a million times better

reasearch the moajve experiment - these people are fools to typical claims and need to watch this.

    good luck

    get vista at all costs

  7. vista sucks...

and so does XP, but at least its stable...

personally i prefer LINUX Xp2007... mind you i work on my PC, i dont play games... well, not often...
