The story is I still have Windows XP on my laptop but it's Vista compatible. I haven't upgraded yet because I heard that there have been big problems with Vista (viruses,etc.).

So would you reccomend an upgrade and what benefits do I get from Vista?

  1. It all depends on what you think, Vista has faster speeds, cool gadgets, and is virtually crash and virus-proof, but it doesn't have nealry as much programs as XP does, but of course, as time goes on there will be more vista stuff, what I personally do, would be to wait untill vista was more popular in programs, and the world of microsaoft switches over to vista

  2. I personally am a big fan of Vista. I have it installed on my desktop. My laptop also came with Vista; however, my desktop is a gaming desktop worth nearly $2500, so I'm able to unleash Vista full potential.

I downgraded to XP on my laptop from Vista. Although my laptop had no trouble running Vista on a Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, XP is more optimized for Laptops and Desktops. Vista is mainly fomid rangege and above desktops and laptops. I advise you stay with XP on your laptop.

  3. I really don't think it is necessary to upgrade your operating system.  Unless your computer is lasting you 10 years, than you should upgrade your operating system when you get a new computer.  I had a Win98 computer up until last year, when I upgraded to Vista.  Before that a bought an XP laptop in 2002.

  4. I have both XP and Vista, and I like them both about the same.  If its free then upgrade, if you have to pay then I'd stay with what you have.

  5. I have windows XP Home and I am very familiar with windows after so many years. This afternoon I was helping a friend who bought a ACE Laptop installing the necessary programs, like anti virus, anti spyware, Firewall etc. It was for the first time I worked with a computer with Vista.

I did not really have the time to investigate the working of vista, but my first impression is very nice, but not nice enough to upgrade from Windows to Vista. When I would workt with an illegal copy of windows xp and I had to buy a legal copy, I think I would buy Vista.

Now I have bought Windows XP Home beginning of this year, I stick with it.

When you have a legal copy of windoes xp and to upgrade to vista you had to buy the cd. I would not do so.

For the money you save, buy TuneUp Utilities instead.

  6. Hi Pocket

That is not true. If you upgrade to Vista, the computer will almost be crashproof. Whoever said that should quite computers altogether.  Win XP is easy to hi-jack but not Vista. Vista was made with that in mind. To make the computer crashproof from all angles.

So, you can upgrade safely but, do it from windows environment and not form boot-up.
