So how do I remove this? Its annoying right now.

  1. None of these programs have fully removed the malware.

Try installing Malwarebytes' Anti-malware from http://malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and running a full scan, it seems to be able to clear up this infection.

AVG is /no longer/ satisfactory protection against viruses, as I've seen /exactly the same/ trojan get past it for several weeks now. Try Avira Antivir from http://free-av.com or Avast! Antivirus from http://avast.com as a free alternative.

    And McAfee isn't good either.

As to "GET A MAC!", I wouldn't, Macs are a terribly expensive solution to something that can be solved for free, either with antivirus software, or by going the way I went and installing Linux. :P

  2. Try These and see if it makes them go away.

    Avast(Anti-Virus)-http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_...

    Ad-Aware -(Adware Remover) http://www.lavasoft.com/single/mirror_do...

    Spybot S&D -(Spyware Remover) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirro...

Run your computer in safe mode while using these programs. So the virus won't interfere. Macafee is one of the worst Virus Programs you can ever use. I suggest you delete Macafee.

If that dosen't work, try changing your background. Other than that I am not sure.

  3. Know this, these virus protection people write their own viruses, and any virus software is aimed straight at Bill Gates. If you must run Windows, get rid of the virus protection, and purchase a professional firewall. Better yet, run Linux. What you probably have is a trojan, not a virus.

You might try AdAware and SpyBot, both free, to take them out, but no guarantee.

  4. Hopefully advice given works, but word of advice never run any softwatre that claims 'registry checker/cleaner/spyware/malware fixer' free scan!! Just buy the real mcoy virus protection like Norton and relax.  Never trust any free scan. I had a experience where I newly installed windows then ran one of those free scan things. 500000 registery errors detected, a little exaggeration, so you panic and think I should buy this thing, it knows its stuff does'nt it, then you realize you got conned and then you stuck with malware.

  6. It's probably the "XP antivirus 2008" trojan - I just had that on my laptop last week and it was a bear to remove.  I am guessing you no longer have screensavers or are able to change your desktop wallpaper in your display properties either.  You'll need to edit your registry to get those features back (click the link listed below & run it) and that will remove the annoying "security warning" image from your desktop.   Good luck.

  7. Thanks Andrew J !!!!!

Had the same problem pop up on me.  Ad-Aware, SpyBot and McAffee all did not remove this problem.

Downloaded MalWare Bytes Anti-Malware program and after a reboot the problem was gone.  I just simply had to go in and reselect a background.

    So far so good!

  8. Let me first tell you that what you have on your computer is Antivirus XP 2008. It is NOT AN ANTI VIRUS. It's in fact, a VIRUS. I'm majoring in computer security and I need you to follow these steps to remove it. To remove it, I recommend downloading Malware Bytes' Free AntiSpyware. You can download the free program here: http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-set...

By the way, it's an absolutely FREE program.

    Follow these instructions to use:

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

    * Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

    * Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.

    * The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.

    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

    * Make sure that everything is checked

    * Click Remove Selected.

    * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

    * The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

    Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
