Question:

Windows XP SP3. Is it a cynical attempt to sabotage XP ?

Several of my friends have installed SP3 on their Windows XP installations and since doing so have been suffering crashes, bugs and a general reduction in performance. Could this be a deliberate cynical attempt to get people to move to Vista.

Your thoughts.

  1. Did they close all running programs first?..no they didnt

Did they defrag first?...no they didnt

Did they do a disk clean-up, restore points as well...no they didnt

Was they logged on to admin account...no they wasnt.

Did they do a full csan for infections first...no they didnt.

  2. I often wonder if Windows itself isn't just a giant social experiment. The vast majority of people have been using Windows all their lives, so how unstable and insecure would they have to make it before people stop buying it and switch to something unfamiliar like OS X or Linux?

Then again, this could be due to the fact that MS is generally very lazy and hates product testing.

  3. Not only is Windows XP Service Pack 3 alive and kicking, but Microsoft also managed to leak details about what the refresh would contain. The Redmond Company's policy when it comes down to future releases of the Windows platform is to gag all details. Windows

XP SP3 is old news for Microsoft. And with the general availability of Windows Vista, it was pushed into the background. But, in all fairness, Microsoft never confirmed the cancellation of the third service pack for Windows XP. The company only scrapped it out of sight and under the rug with repeated delays.

The availability date for the first beta of Windows Vista SP1 was revealed by a U.S. Justice Department legal filing. Microsoft plans to deliver Vista SP1 beta by the end of 2007, but the date is of course nothing more than an estimation. By comparison, SP3 for Windows XP is currently planned for the first half of 2008. Nevertheless, Microsoft initially planned to deliver the third service pack for Windows XP in 2006, only to postpone the release to 2007, and then again to 2008.

Windows XP SP3, despite its multiple delays, will make it to the market, and Microsoft plans to integrate changes to Internet Explorer and to Windows Media Player into the refresh. "Microsoft has agreed to make changes to Windows XP, two Middleware Products, and Windows Live Messenger. The Windows Live Messenger changes have been delivered in the Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta and will be included in the public release. Changes for Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player will be made available to users in August 2007 and Microsoft is discussing with the TC the delivery mechanism for those changes. The Windows XP changes will be incorporated into Service Pack 3 for Windows XP", revealed the U.S. Justice department in its filing.

  4. I have been using XP SP3 since it's release, Not a problem in fact it is the most stable windows platform I have ever used and I've used all of them from way back.

  6. I never had any problems with SP3, in fact, I find it more stable than SP2..!

Also, I don't believe any major software company will implement such a conspiracy unless they want to earn a bad ( in Microsoft's case read worse) reputation and their customers to migrate to Mac and GNU/Linux.

SP3 is causing problems on some machines with an AMD processors because some retailers are dumb enough to install Intel drivers on AMD machines that causes BSoD and other problems with XP. So its not Microsoft's fault.

I have an Intel processor and SP3 has been running just fine.

  7. Any Service pack is just a collection of previous upgrades with some extra enhancement's I think the problems your friends are having are user related rather that problems with the O/S

  8. I don't think it is their intention to sabotage their own product. Its typical problems of software makers for a newly made version of software or programs. They usually released it to actually test its stability and used those first users as crash test dummies. I usually dont go ahead installing new OS or upgrading without much research and peers recommendation (who have actually used the product).  I dont think Vista is stable yet and some programs doesnt come or compatible  with Vista.
