Why I have to turn off the power in order to bring up the shut down menu on my lap top? if its still running on electricity, every time I click 'Turn off Computer' from the start menu, it will take about 15 minutes to bring up the shut down menu. But If I turn off the power (and my laptop starts to run on battery) the shut down menu will pop up fast.

  4. interesting one... what brand laptop/sp windows.

update I just remembered a problem similar to this I had. if I tried to boot my laptop with the power cord plugged in it would freeze. but running on batteries it worked fine. it turned out one of the power saving options turned off a system that was to blame so I disabled it in cord mode as well and the problem went away.

  5. try going to task manager and ending all your user programs. then try shutting down
