Question:

Windows XP Virus Downloaded and Need Help!

Somehow the WXP Virus got downloaded on my computer. I ran a system check that was recommended in a post and it looked like all was well -- except for the display on the desktop, but that was to be my next tackle. Anyway, now I cannot even log into my computer. An error message comes up and it won't log in. At this point, am I better off taking it to the computer tech that lives down the street or is there another fix? I am trying to fix this the most economical way...

  1. use hijack this

  2. i think u have a desktop warning msg...or something like a blue screen virus...thats most probably a adware...so there are many posts which tells u to download softwares...and give a scan log  etc etc.....

but i think the best way is u better format ur pc...Since u cant log in to ur computer...install the xp while booting

  3. download a free scan and follow manual removal instructions:

  4. Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

    VundoFix:

    http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/gl...

Disconnect your computer from the internet

    Run vundo

    Restart your computer

Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.

If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.

Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

    SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

    http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan

    Edit:

If you cannot logon to your main screen try and boot into safe mode and carry out a System Restore, failing that if you have the Windows CD, perform a Windows in-place upgrade which is pretty straightforward. To begin, insert the Windows CD into the drive, restart your system, and boot from the CD. Once the initial preparation is complete, you’ll see the Windows Setup screen. Press [Enter] to launch the Windows Setup procedure. In a moment, you’ll see the License Agreement page and will need to press [F8] to acknowledge that you agree. Setup will then search the hard disk looking for a previous installation of Windows. When it finds the previous installation, you’ll see a second Windows Setup screen on the next page.

This screen will prompt you to press R to repair the selected installation or to press [Esc] to install a fresh copy of Windows. In this case, selecting a repair operation is the same as performing an in-place upgrade, so you’ll need to press R. When you do so, Setup will examine the disk drives in the system. It will then begin performing the in-place upgrade.

  5. I recommend that you use Clamwin for this problem.

ClamWin is a Free Antivirus for Microsoft Windows

that uses the GNU General Public License by the Free Software

Foundation and is free (as in freedom) software.

There is a portable version of ClamWin where it can be install into an USB thumb drive. You install in a USB thumb drive as small as 64 MB.

First use another uninfected PC to download Clamwin portable anti-virus  and install Clamwin portable on a USB thumb drive.

    http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/c...

    How to configure ClamWin

    http://support.real-time.com/open-source...

Update the latest anti-virus definition files.

Set the preferences to delete or move virus to a quarantine folder.

Boot up in safe mode on the infected PC.

If possible, disable system restore on the infected PC.

Use the USB drive with Clamwin Anti-virus installed to scan the infected PC.

Scan memory and all hard drives for viruses.

  6. The most economic way you want to know then start using linux ubuntu, its free, virus doesn't infect it, can do every thing & more what u r doing on windows, saves ur precious time (which u waste in virus scanning & all), supports all hardware.

It will take only 30 minutes to install & only few days to understand the environment of linux. Trust me it worth.
