My laptop running WIndows XP SP2 can see my unencrypted wireless network with full strength signal, but when I try to connect to it, it displays the "waiting for the network" loading screen for about 3 minutes and then says "unable to connect".

I have tried repairing the wireless connection, I have tried turning on and off the wireless router, I have tried resetting the winsock, I have tried restarting the computer... i have three other computers in the house that work wirelessly just fine, one of which is XP. **** THIS ****>

  1. Is there any limit of connected computers in the router? Like it gives space for 3 computers and not 4? Try turn another computer of and see if that works.

  2. control panal, internet connections, now hit the internet options, now what does it say it should say www.yahoo.com if  not then write it in...apply then hit content tab does it say enabled then do it...go back to securit tab and defualt it then restart your hooked

  3. Here's two possibilities:

    1. Your ESSID is the same as a neighbors, confusing the laptop

    2. Your laptop has been told your network is encrypted

  4. .

  5. Certification-http://ccietutorials.com/

  6. You might try and renew your IP address, I have had a similar problem with my Dell Laptop with XP connecting to a friends wireless network.

    Go to Start

    Click on Run

    Type in CMD

then in there, at the end of what is already there

type ipconfig \release (must have the space) and hit enter

after you get the prompt again

type ipconfig \renew (must have the space) and hit enter

Close that window out and try opening your internet brower again and see if it connects.

That is what I had to do to get a connection at my friends house.

  7. i find sometimes you just need to wait it out or restart your computer. i find sometimes my computer will ahve full signal and not connect. i'll just restart it and it will connect or just leave it for a bit and it will eventually connect. its weird sometimes, especially when other computers are connected and i'm not. the only thing is, is that i have an hp computer and my roommates dont. i sometimes wonder if its a computer issue.
