I have recently inserted my windows xp Cd to my laptop and it goes up to a certain point and then it says 13 minutes remaining until installation complete and it stays on there for about 20 minutes and it doesnt do anything. I rebooted my laptop and have tried it again and it still does the same. So I restarted my laptop and didnt do anything and it says "Setup Restarting" Is there anyway I can get onto my laptop without doing the setup ??

Thorough and Informative answers will be chosen as BEST ANSWER.

Please help,

Thank you.

  1. insert cd and boot xp from it.press any key.ofter pressing enter, select c drive to quick format.then proceed to install.

  2. yep it sounds like a cd defect or it just needs cleaning

  3. If u r trying to reinstall the operating system

    then

    1. put the cd in cd drive

    2. Restart the computer

    3. Select "boot from CD" option

then follow the instructions and select the drive where u want to reinstall the operating system (win xp)

it will take around 30 mins if u have the 1 gb of RAM

note:- Its is recommended to reinstall in the same drive in which u have the current operating system

    -----------------------------

if u have original os with ur laptop or comp ... u can restore the operating system :)

  4. I hope I will live a Microsoft lifetime.

    because a microsoft minuite = about 10.

Try waiting longer how boring it may be.

Try cleaning the disk and or CD reader.

Try removing the disk at the 13 munuite point and see if the program asks for the Windows disk.

Then put it back in,wait a few seconds and click enter to continue.

Otherwise your disk may be dammaged.

Get one from a friend, but use your product code.

    Otherwise :

At boot click the F8 key repeatedly until the boot screen opens and select the Windowsxp option to bypass the install.

Without the WinXp disk in the drive of course.

    d;o)

  5. your CD might have some scratches.., that's the reason your CD reader cant read that particular information, try with new XP CD, Put the CD inside and then switch on ur Laptop it will automatically go to boot screen, there u choose the drive name.. I think u kno all these stuffs,

The installation time is increasing becoz of CD scratches. Insert new CD.

  6. The thirteen minutes is only an estimate. Restart the install and leave it alone for a couple of hours; see what happens.

  7. well, i can only think that you were on vista before and the b******s at microsoft will not let you install xp on your pc if it was originally on vista or even if you installed vista. You should have gone mac ^^.

  8. You might have finger prints on your Windows XP cd. Clean your cd with a soft cloth and try installing the cd again

  9. At 13 minutes remaining svcpack.inf is run, can you explore your xp cd on the pc you are using now and see what is in your svcpack.inf?

You may be best off slipstreaming SP2 rather then installing hotfixes from svcpack.inf

on the 'setup is restarting' is there an error message when it cannot continue?

Have you removed/replaced any hardware from your pc that was there originally? also remove any external devices (printer etc).

If you can download the ubcd4win or any linux distribution you should be able to run that from disk and get access to your hard drive. look for the install error logs: you can also use these programs to reformat your hard drive for a clean install if needed
