My computer was getting frequent pop-ups and so I assumed I had a spyware so I launched WIndows Live OneCare and after restarting my computer I got a blue screen! Now I can't access Windows XP at all!

In the blue screen under Technical Information is reads:

--------------------------------------...

*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF803EA8, 0xF70407C4, 0x00000000)

*** win32k.sys - Address BF803EA8 base at BF800000, Datestamp 48025f2a

I Googled the error message a bit and I read that the cause could be a faulty RAM but I then popped in a different IDE HD in my PC and I installed Windows in it and it worked fine. So I don't think is a problem with the RAM. The HD I am trying to access is a SATA HD. Could the HD be dead or a possible virus? Please Help!

  3. Try the sata hard drive in a known good working computer to find out if it works or not.

If it does work then the problem could be within the bios settings or even a defective controller. You could try re-installing the various drivers pertaining to your motherboard.
