Windows Xp Desktop computer won't start up?

Okay so today my computer was working just fine but when I tried getting on Facebook it jammed up so I hit Ctrl Alt Delete and closed the internet. It was taking like 20 minutes to close so I tried to restart the computer. This wasn't working either so I held down the power button and shut it off. Now when I try to boot it up it goes to the screen with the options of Safe Mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last working settings, and finally Start Windows normally. Well when I choose any of the safe modes a long list of rows of numbers and letters fills up the screen and it stops there, frozen. If I choose Last Working Settings or to start windows normally a bar at the bottom of the screen fills up and then it freezes. It does this every time I try to start it up. I even turned off the power for a few hours and came back to it still not working. Please, I am not amazing with computers so if you know the answer could you put it in simple steps for me? Thanks

  1. I'm afraid there is no real fix to something like this. There are hundreds of factors that could be associated with a frozen start up.

Graphics card failure could be a problem, overheating processor, general wear and tear and power supply.

    All these just hardware.

Download and run Speed fan http://www.download.com/SpeedFan/3000-20...

Run it and find out your core system temperature. It really shouldn't be higher than 40c. If it is additional fans will be required.

If this isn't the case a system file has been attacked. Follow these steps to a repair http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepa...

    Hope this helps somewhat

  2.    How old is your computer? It sounds as if as you have a very old non-Pentium 4 computer.

Your Operating System(OS) or Hard Disk could have been corrupted already, coz you didn't shut it down properly.

It isn't surprising that your computer failed to boot in safe mode, probably due to corrupted stuff.

Turning off the power will definitely not help as the problem does not lie there.

If you still have your Windows XP installation disk or did a backup before, re-install your XP or try recovering using the backup.

If not, you can only do a re-format.

If the problem is a corrupted hard disk, then you would need to get another one.

    Hope i helped! =)

    Good Luck
