Windows Xp will not start? Just a blank screen with cursor?

Question

I left my computer on over night and woke up to just a black screen with a cursor in the left top corner and the computer will not do anything else. Its an HP pavilion that came with windows xp installed, so I don't have a disk to reinstall. Im completely lost on what to do. should i just take it to the geek squad or can i somehow reinstall windows?

Before u reinstall anything or take it to the Dork Squad, try this:  

Turn it off, unplug it from the wall, then open the case, find the battery for the bios (looks like a giant watch battery), remove the battery for 20 seconds, put the battery back in, and power the computer back on.

Keep in mind that if u decide to reinstall XP, u will lose everything u had on that hard drive....everything!

That happened to me once too. Call microsoft or geek squad. Your computer overhaeted probably.  Mirosoft knew what to do for mine, so call them. JUst google microsoft anf get a phone number

you try restarting the computer....i know i will not working .. no choice just call customer care hp they will help you

the only way is restart and press f8.go to lastknown......

else wipe out c drive

its obviously overheated

yeah just find the recovery cds that should have been included with the pc

and reinstall
