Ok so I opened my pc after un plugin everything to blow the dust out with canned air like I have done many times before only this time something screwed up. While pluging it in it decided to start up on me so I quickly pressed the power button because nothing else was plugged in. And now it tries to load windows (vista home premium) but ends up un a black screen and appears to stay there. Ubuntu live cd claims my HDD is un mountable and thinks the drive was "uncleanly" shut down. I have tried some diagnostic cds that came with it and everything passes for the hard drives, cpu, and ram.

What can I do to at the very least recover some data, I am fine with restoring it but there are un backed up pics of a dog we reccently had to put down which I would like to recover... any help is greatly appreciated!
